Clawfinger got together in 1988 and instantly became known in all Scandinavian countries. Soon the energetic and abrasive musicians were noticed by the big record labels. Clawfinger‘s popularity soared with amazing speed in Western Europe and the U.S.; the band is considered to be one of the pioneers of new metal. The Scandinavians have worked together with heavy music stars such as Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Faith No More and Alice Cooper, and helped the German band Rammstein on its road to recognition by producing its first albums.
Although Clawfinger‘s music is considered to be heavy, the compositions are especially melodic and the aggressively presented lyrics mask social concepts. The band‘s songs strongly protest against megalomani, homophobia, militarism and other vices that infest the present day. The new metal artists loudly shout Life Will Kill You with their new album.
On the music scene for several decades now, Clawfinger has millions of fans throughout the world and is one of the most influential performers of alternative rock. When asked what place Clawfinger holds on the heavy metal scene, Zak Tell said this about the group‘s work:
„I never felt we had anything in common with popular metal artists, especially those who consider themselves to be part of the rap metal scene. Most of them only stick to obvious formulas and are scared to go in new directions. They are afraid to lose their listeners, so they don‘t even try to stray from the format that MTV dictates! I think we all know the rap metal bands that circle the MTV scene… Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful for the support we have, support that lets us continue to fill concert halls throughout Europe,” says the Clawfinger vocalist.
